Overview: Hot lunch service is provided by "The Great American Lunch Box." Started in 1989, “The Great American Lunch Box” is currently Orange County’s largest provider of private school hot lunches serving over ten thousand children at over fifty area Southland schools. Meals are prepared fresh daily at a central commissary and then packaged for delivery. Without exception, all meal components are individually packaged to prevent cross-handling and/or manipulation prior to being distributed to the end-user. (Outside vendors such as Papa John’s and Wendy’s are coordinated through a centralized system that allows for fresh delivery of product.) Once assembled, meals are placed in state-of-the-art thermal retentive units and dispatched to St. Paul’s (care is taken to make sure that hot, cold and dry-good products are all held separately). Meal temperatures are closely monitored at both ends of the chain to ensure optimal food conditions and safety.
