Meet the Staff
Pastor Larry Stoterau, Interim Senior Pastor Pastor Stoterau graduated from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis in 1973. He was ordained in his home church in Luverne, Minnesota. He served churches in Alhambra, CA and Chandler, AZ before being elected President of the Pacific Southwest District, LCMS in 2000. He earned his Doctor of Ministry degree from Fuller Seminary, Pasadena. He retired in 2018. He and his wife Linda have lived in Orange since 2001 and have two adult sons. He enjoys watching sports, fishing and golfing.
Carlos Velazquez, Assistant Pastor
Pastor Carlos Velazquez has served at St. Paul's Lutheran Church since 2015 and was called and ordained in January 2021. He holds a Master of Theology and a degree in Cross-Cultural Missions from Concordia University Irvine as well as a law degree from UNAM in Mexico City. Pastor Carlos is a founding member of the first Hispanic Circuit of the Pacific Southwest District and has been a guest speaker for Lutheran Hour Ministries en Espanol. He also teaches as an adjunct professor of Theology at Christ College, CUI. He and his wife, Erika, are blessed with three children and enjoy hiking, reading and sharing new culinary experiences together.
Tim Detviler, Visitation Pastor
Pastor Tim (or “P.Det” as the students call him) has been a pastor since 1996 and part of St. Paul's staff since 2023. After working for several years in the medical field with terminally ill patients, Pastor Tim returned to school to pursue a career in pastoral ministry. He graduated from Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri in 1996. He served as the pastor for Family Ministries at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Orange prior to accepting his current call as the Campus Pastor at Orange Lutheran High School. Pastor Tim is married to Jenny and enjoys spending his free time with his four children and six grandchildren.
Juno Rada, Director of Worship Arts
Juno is a singer-songwriter and producer from Los Angeles. He was a contestant on American Idol season 2014-2015. He's married to Mira and he enjoys long walks with their dog, Laika. His top 5 foods (at the moment of this writing) are asada fries, Indian food, wings, pho, and fish 'n chips.
Erica Hantula, Traditional Worship Director
Erica joined St. Paul's staff in 2023. She works full-time as a teacher at Orange Lutheran High School. She is married to Drew and they have two sons and one daughter.
Kessler O'Brien, Director of Student & Family Ministries
Kessler joined St. Paul's staff in 2023. He is a graduate of the DCE (Director of Christian Education) program at Concordia University Irvine and he recently got married! Kessler enjoys being outside in his free time whether it is camping, hiking, or anything else active! He loves training and competing in triathlons and spending time with people over good food and coffee!
Amelia Capell, Executive Assistant/Office Manager
Amelia has been on staff since 2018. She hails from San Diego and is married to Mark, an Orange Lutheran High School alumni, and they have one daughter and two sons. Amelia enjoys singing in the church choir, playing the acoustic guitar and rooting for the Chargers and the Angels.
Priscilla Malchow, Office Assistant
Priscilla has been on staff since 2018. She is a 2003 graduate of Cal State Fullerton with a degree in International Business. She is married to Darren and they have three sons and one daughter. Priscilla enjoys the beach, camping and traveling.
Nicole Stankus, Business Manager
Nicole has been on staff since 2019. She is a St. Paul's alum and a 2001 graduate of Cal State Fullerton. She is married to Adam and they have two daughters. She enjoys gardening, crafting and spending time with her family.
Amy Watson, Bookkeeper
Amy has been on staff since 2024. She earned her Master of Education degree from Grand Canyon University and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of science degree in Human Development from Hope International University. She is married to Casey and they have two daughters and one son. Amy enjoys hiking, the beach and anything that gets her and her family outdoors.

Henry Nevarez, Facilities Manager
Henry has been on staff since 2013. He is married to Anna and they have one son and one daughter. Henry enjoys camping, off-roading and spending time with his family.
Darren Malchow, Sr. Facilities Technician
Darren has been on staff since 2007. He earned his degree in Liberal Arts from Concordia University, Irvine in 2018. He is married to Priscilla and they have three sons and one daughter.
Travis Hight, Facilities Technician
Travis has been on staff since 2019. He is both a St. Paul's Lutheran and Orange Lutheran High School alumni. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology at Kansas State in 2017. He enjoys sports, going to Angels games, mountain biking and hiking.
